We’re ready to partner with you for a great smile and overall health – but we understand that your first visit to a new dentist can be stressful. Our primary goal is to make you as comfortable as possible! We recommend that you schedule your first appointment for a date and time when you’ll be most relaxed, and arrive a few minutes early. Your first visit should take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the recommended treatment.
Intake
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by our friendly treatment coordinator. You will then have a private consultation where you are free to discuss your dental history and dental care desires. You’ll then meet with Dr. Spaulding, who will listen to your dental health needs, concerns and expectations. the exam will not begin until all your questions have been answered and you’re completely comfortable – including your choice of our unique amenities.
Exam
Dr. Spaulding will complete a comprehensive dental examination including a clinical screening for oral cancer, a tooth-by-tooth charting to identify and record the current condition of your teeth, a periodontal chart to assess the condition of your gums, and an occlusal evaluation. A smile analysis for an aesthetic smile enhancement may also be provided followed by a discussion of options.
Next Steps
Following the examination, an intro-oral camera will provide a video tour of your mouth. A customized outline of the procedures recommended to improve your dental health and provide a beautiful, healthy smile would then be reviewed. Then Dr. Spaulding’s highly trained professional hygienist will complete a comprehensive general cleaning or initiate the recommended therapy for treating gum disease.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most dentists recommend you see them at least once every six months for regular dental exams and cleanings. However, your dentist may recommend visiting our office more frequently depending on your unique oral health needs. Be sure to see your dentist as instructed for optimal oral health.
If you have a dental insurance policy, your dental cleaning may be partially or fully covered, and you won’t need to pay for it yourself. However, if you don’t have dental insurance, you will need to pay for the cleaning out-of-pocket. To find out how much your cleaning will cost, please contact the office for assistance.
While routine dental exams and cleanings usually don’t take more than 30 minutes to an hour, this time frame can vary. This is especially true if there’s been a significant change in your oral health since you last visited your dentist.
